Various US banks, including Bank of America, Citigroup and Goldman Sachs, have recently released ‘better than expected’ quarterly results, causing some commentators to claim that the banking crisis is over, and that perhaps TARP wasn’t needed in the first place to save the financial system.

Lehman Brothers, the 4th biggest investment bank in the US, is filing for bankruptcy???

Merrill Lynch, the largest stockbroking firm in the US, is being taken over by Bank of America???

AIG, the insurance giant, planning an urgent restructuring to stave off possible default??? AIG apparently seeking $40 billion to shore up its capital position???

It’s going to be a crazy second half of September. I’ll try to send out an equities update in the next few days.
